New Cove Item

thesovereign
Now what would anyone do with a 9-Pound Coconut?

image

So far it looks like it does 10 water icons and 3 physical and costs 400 dubloons a the cove - doesn't seem too bad to me. View the full profile here.

Note: The "Shop Wizard Average" is based on speculation, and could change dramatically over the next few days, since to my knowledge none have sold. If you are aware of any actual sales please contact us.

More Tyrannian Weapons

UmbreonMatt
Well, to add to the Bony Bracers and Bony Boomerang we saw come out a month ago, two new weapons are stocking in Tyrannian Weaponry, Stone Helmet and Trilo Shield. Given the dubious quality of the above-mentioned weapons, and the fact that the helmet has already been tested and discovered to do NOTHING (-_- we're hoping it was just released too early), we're not really keeping our fingers crossed.

As always, if you have info on these weapons, please let us know so we can update our database. Alternatively, if you have access to them but are unsure about how to test them, do contact one of us or post on the forums so we can get back to you. Thanks!

New Snowballs

UmbreonMatt
Two new snowballs have started stocking in the Ice Crystal Shop. If anyone has info on either or both of these, please let us know so we can update our database. As they are likely single use, it would be advisable to go about testing these through the stealing method, more so given their relatively high rarities (wouldn't want to toss np down the drain!).

Alternatively, if you have access to them but are unsure about how to test them, do contact one of us or post on the forums so we can get back to you. Thanks!

New 1P Moveset and Strength Boost Research Project

thesovereign
I'm heading up a new research project on 1p opponent movesets, to post on the in depth profile of each opponent, in addition to their weapons and abilities.

An explanation of what exactly a moveset is and how to test them can be found here, and each of the opponents individual threads can be found here.

We are also looking at the strength boosts of various 1p opponents and how they change over number of wins.

Even if you do have a good idea of how to test these things, it would be a good idea to take a look at the explanation thread for how we want the data, and to make sure you know all of the details, and what to look for.

New 2 Player Rating System

Sirhatter
Today, the IDB is pleased to announce a revolutionary new rating system, that is based not on your statistics but primarily on your prowess in two player fights.

TheOnlySaneOne has announced a tournament that will launch the system. The Tournament is in 4 weeks. But today we want to give people a chance to understand how the system works.

We launch a true rating system that, after an initial seeding based on scores against four selected 1-p opponents, will adjust based on your performance in idb tournaments and in individual matches against other idb rated opponents.

We are giving all entrants a month to get seeded properly. If you enter the tournament, your rating will be based off the initial seeding. If you do not enter the tournament, you may have even more than a month to get seeded.

Your initial rating is 1000. You can gain or lose points against two player opponents based on your result. The bigger the upset victory, the bigger your gain, capped at 32 points for a great result, and negative 32 points for losing a shocking upset. The formula is similar to (but doesnt exactly match) the ratings systems you see in tournament chess play.

Initially, your rating can start even higher than 1000 though. For the next month, we will look at your total wins against the following opponents
your initial rating though is at least 1000

for each win over MAGNUS THE TORCH (upto 100 wins) you start with 2 extra points on your rating
for each win over ryushu (upto 100 wins) you start with 3 extra points
for each win over the snowager (upto 100 wins) you start with 4 extra points
for each win over the mootix warrior (upto 100 wins) you get 5 extra points

This makes your maximum initial rating 2400. Ratings are considered provisional until you have 10 rated 2 player fights. Thank you and good luck!

edited: a number of people wisely alerted me that sabre-x is non-trivial to get, so we have replaced sabre-x with magnus the torch. my mistake.

Top 250 Pets

Kage
IDB is very proud to announce the re-release of our very own Top 250 Pets list (expanded from our previous Top 50)! A of list of the 250 strongest and most experienced battlers in all of Neopia. A link has been placed in the sidebar to the left.

Alas, 250 is a very large number, and without a doubt, we are missing many pets that should be on the list. If you know of a pet that should be listed, please post on our forums and they will be updated accordingly.

The entire IDB crew has worked very diligently to compile this list and I would like to thank each and every one of them for their help. This could never have been finished without you all. image

If you have an IDB account, you can also register your own pet. Please NOTE that it takes us a while before your pet officially gets into the database. So please be patient. This shouldn't take us more than a day or two however.

Another NOTE is that our list does not include frozen pets.

Kage @ Feb 27, 2009 02:14 AM

New Rating System TOURNAMENT

theonlysaneone
The IDB is launching a new rating system that will encourage people to train their pet properly, and build their set sensibly. It will reward prowess in 2-player matches against all manner of opponents, and will initially be determined by your results against 4 selected one-player monsters.

To accompany this launch, we are hosting a 2-player tournament that will incorporate your results against the four monsters. Signups for this competition will take place in the War Room in the forums and will end March 22. (You will need to create a forum account if you do not already have one). One-player battling will also end then.

Opponents and more details about the rating system will be posted within the next couple of days. If anyone has any questions, PM theonlysaneone on the forums.

Good luck to everyone!
